Trial by Combat 2023

We have been receiving applications for Trial by Combat 2023, but I want to make sure everyone is aware:

• The competition is June 24-26 in Philadelphia at Drexel's Klne Institute of Trial Advocacy.
  

• 14 competitors will be selected in our traditional fashion.
  

• 2 competitors will be selected via a Play-In Tournament, which will include 8 finalists on Zoom on April 22-23. The details for the Play-In Tournament are here.
  

We are excited to host the first in-person Trial by Combat in Philadelphia since 2019!

For students not competing at Nationals, applications are due at 12 pm Pacific on April 7. For students competing at Nationals, applications are due 12 pm Pacific on April 19.

We are excited to announce the 2023 Trial by Combat field. You can see the 14 students who have been selected for Combat and the 8 who have been selected for the inaugural Play-In Tournament (the top two of whom will advance to Trial by Combat). There were will be a pair of semifinals at 11 am Eastern, another pair of semis at 1 pm Eastern, and final rounds at 3 pm and 5 pm Eastern.

The competitors get the case on Saturday morning. We will share the case and rules with the community after the competitors receive them.

The semifinals went 2 P, 2 D, with exactly 6 ballots apiece. These are the final rounds. The winner of each advances to Trial by Combat in Philadelphia this June!

Starting today and continuing every Monday at 2:30 pm Eastern, Phil will be posting trial videos from Trial by Combat 2023.

Drexel was able to record video for 18 of the 19 trials (sadly, the we don't have the footage from one R1 trial).
