Judges needed for MockOn's Golden Gavel Classic Invitational!
Sun Sep 24, 2023 11:08 pm
Hi everyone,
MockOn is thrilled to host our Inaugural Golden Gavel Classic on October 7-8, 2023. The competition will take place online using Zoom.
The Golden Gavel Classic is a two-day nationwide high school mock trial competition. This competition is going to be different from others we’ve hosted in the past — we created it very intentionally to promote learning within the community. At the high school level, we felt that students don’t always get as many opportunities to experiment, receive feedback, and work on developing skills before showcasing them at a more competitive level.
We aren’t just looking for judges who want to watch mock trial — we’re looking for judges who are enthusiastic about sharing the wisdom they’ve learned over the years, supporting young students, and giving back to a community that has offered us so much. That’s exactly why we’re reaching out to you!
Just as much as our new competition is designed to give students a real platform to learn, it also gives judges a platform to teach. We know that so many of you have learned some invaluable wisdom over years of practice, and we encourage you to share it with our competitors. They want to hear it! It makes an enormous difference for them, not just in competition, but also in their development as students and young adults. They will take your words with them for so many years to come. If you are able to volunteer your time to judge, we would be incredibly appreciative. You can sign up to judge by clicking here.
We will be hosting a judge orientation session on October 4th at 8 PM EST. We ask that all judges attend that session, as we will be reviewing important logistics and information regarding the online tournament format. If you are unable to attend, please let us know, and we will send you a recording of the session.
We will be hosting four preliminary rounds during the competition. The competition format will be 2-on-2, which means that these trials will be, at a maximum, 150 minutes total. We have included the times slots when judges should be available below. These times indicate the total time you would be at the event (including pre-round judge assignments, total trial time, and post-trial feedback). We would appreciate if you would be willing to volunteer your time to judge during any of the following time slots:
NOTE: ALL TIMES ARE EASTERN.
Round 1: Saturday, October 7th, 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM
Round 2: Saturday, October 7th, 3:00 PM - 6:30 PM
Round 3: Sunday, October 8th, 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM
