2019 Yale Invitational - Judges' Choice
Sat Dec 14, 2019 3:28 pm
We ran, for the second year in a row, a small experiment at the Yale Invitational. Each scoring judge was asked to answer, at the bottom of their blue ballot, this question: Which team put on the better performance? This question is one of the tiebreakers used in a National Championship Trial, and their answer to this question constitutes their "judges' choice."
The judges' choice responses weren't used for tabulation. Rather, my hope is that this gave teams some more feedback in a way that didn't impact the flow of the trial (or the tournament as a whole). I also hope that this provokes some thought in the mock community at large about the evaluation system we have in place today.
