Devil's Advocates (New Summer Comp) Empty Devil's Advocates (New Summer Comp)

Thu May 02, 2024 3:50 pm
A message from Jeff Bloom, Director of Advocacy at Mercer University School of Law:

To help scratch that mock trial itch over the off-season, the Mercer University School of Law will be hosting an invitational called Devil’s Advocates this summer. Preliminary rounds will take place via zoom on Saturday, July 13, 2024 through Sunday, July 14, 2024. The final four teams will compete for the championship on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the federal courthouse in Macon, Georgia. If you all have any interest, please feel free to apply. We’ll have some special awards and interesting judges, including actual federal and state court judges along with trial advocacy directors from some of the better law school trial teams.

Some details about the comp:

- Applications are due June 1, 2024 (but will be reviewed on a rolling basis)
- No registration or other fees
- 4-5 team members; Trials will have 2 witness and 2 advocates per side; no restrictions on who you use where
- Eligibility: Participating students must be current undergraduates and intend to compete on an AMTA team for the Fall 2024 semester
- Teams will compete under the banner of their AMTA school. So, all team members must be from the same school.
- There won’t be good guys in this casefile. The case will be based on the Barksdale crime family’s war with Omar Little, notorious stick-up man, from the Wire television series. The case will be released on or before June 15, 2024.
- As the 3rd ranked law school trial team in the Nation, Mercer loves highly competitive, fun, mock. So, selections will be competitive, and we plan to select trial teams from the best of the best.
